Overview & Highlights

Nestled in the charming Piazza Sforza Cesarini in the heart of Rome, Trattoria Polese is an authentic Italian dining gem that captures the essence of traditional Roman cuisine with remarkable warmth and genuine hospitality. This trattoria radiates a cozy, inviting atmosphere that immediately makes you feel like a welcomed guest in a local’s home rather than a tourist passing through.

The culinary experience at Trattoria Polese is a heartfelt celebration of classic Italian flavors executed with passion and precision. Diners rave about the impeccable freshness and seasoning of their pasta dishes — rich, silky carbonara and perfectly tender oxtail are frequently singled out for praise. The straccetti di manzo (thinly sliced beef) is a standout, delivering a vibrant burst of robust, savory notes that linger delightfully on the palate. Equally compelling is their grilled fish, cooked to flaky perfection with subtle smoky undertones that enhance the natural sweetness of the seafood.

Pizza lovers will be equally charmed here; each pizza is crafted with thoughtful attention to dough texture and toppings, crisping to an ideal golden crunch while maintaining a chewy, flavorful bite. Customers note the quality rivaling the best pizza Italy has to offer, a hard feat given the nation's storied reputation.

The service complements the food beautifully — attentive, charismatic, and knowledgeable staff like Ferdinand and Elbert go above and beyond to recommend specials and make you feel valued without rushing you. This balance of efficiency and warmth creates a relaxed yet genuinely engaging dining atmosphere. Whether you're enjoying a leisurely lunch or a convivial dinner, Trattoria Polese promises a memorable meal, brimming with authentic tastes and heartfelt care.

Ideal for families, couples, or solo travelers alike, this neighborhood treasure offers a dining experience that’s refreshingly free from touristy pretenses yet welcoming to all. The locale itself is safe and quiet, perfect for a peaceful evening meal paired with a simple yet satisfying house red wine. Given its growing popularity, especially in the evenings, reservations come highly recommended.

For anyone looking to savor a true taste of Rome’s culinary tradition, paired with warm, down-to-earth service and a genuine local vibe, Trattoria Polese is a brilliant choice that lives up to its glowing endorsements. Bravo, Polese!

We went for lunch today. The food and service was so good that we went again at dinner time. I highly recommend the stracccetti di manzo. It was excellent. My wife had the grilled fish, excellent also. My pizza at dinner was as good as pizza gets. The service is exceptional. Bravo Polese!!! I would recommend reservations at dinner time.

After 10 days going throughout Italy we thought we had already had what would likely be our best dining experience and then we happened onto this restaurant for lunch. We were blown away at the service and food. It was easily clear they care about their food quality as they described their specials and recommendations.

Trattoria Polese is a charming and authentic Italian restaurant in the heart of Rome. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff is friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious. The pasta dishes are fresh and flavorful, and the pizza is perfectly cooked. Great spot for lunch or dinner with reasonable prices and quick service. Perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers looking for a real Roman meal. Highly recommended if you want to enjoy traditional Italian cuisine in a relaxed setting near the city center.

Our first evening in Rome and this place came recommended by a local. It was excellent. Our hungry family of four shared a bunch of things (see pic). Everything was delicious. Can’t go wrong here. Loved the atmosphere. It felt like a local spot. Nothing touristy about it. Neighborhood is safe to walk around at night and the bottle of house red is a no brainer. We skipped dessert because we were too full. The Parmesan mixed with salt that they serve (forgot the name)- ask for it!

Food and service was truly amazing. The best calamari and carbonara I have ever tasted. Portion size were also good. We had Ferdinand and Elbert serving us and they were amazing in recommending dishes and providing good service. I will definitely go again and recommend this place to everyone.

Everything was amazing. We all had different food.. pasta, fish, meat.. each person said theirs was the most delicious. The service is really great, the waiter was very charismatic and easy to talk to! I would definitely come back! Also they are fast, but you don’t feel the pressure that you have to leave..

A friend recommended this restaurant and with very good reason! The food is delicious! I had a couple of dishes from the daily special menu: pasta and oxtail. Both were prepared expertly and they were kind enough to provide wet wipes for afterward. I also had a martini, house red, tiramisu, and espresso. Everything was perfect! Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Our Vatican tour guide recommended Polese for a bit more authentic and where she would go eat as a local. Service was ok, but the food was great. With it being a little off the road it made it quieter.
